Miguel S. Fernandez

Miguel Fernandez S. is a business and community leader active in both the United States and Mexico. He serves as the CEO of Transtelco, a bi-national telecommunications company that he co-founded in 2001. Transtelco provides voice and data services to telecom and cable companies, including Fortune 1000 companies, over a fiber optic network that spans more than 7,000 miles. The company is one of a handful of telecom service providers that cover both the United States and Mexico.


Mr. Fernandez's professional activities focus on the areas of telecommunications, banking, finance, real estate, and economic development. At Transtelco, he oversees the execution and implementation of the company's strategic goals and objectives, including overall budgets and mergers and acquisitions. He is a founder of SABA Investments, a regional technology fund; Stanton Hospitality, an El Paso-based hospitality group; and Sotoak Realty, a real estate company focused on developing downtown El Paso. Mr. Fernandez is on the Board of Directors of the Hub of Human Innovation, a regional incubator which provides guidance and resources to local entrepreneurs. He also serves on the Board of Managers of the University Medical Center of El Paso, the primary teaching institution for Texas Tech University's four-year Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso.


A native El Pasoan who grew up in the Paso del Norte region, Mr. Fernandez is involved with many community groups and non-profit organizations. He was instrumental in the movement to establish a children's museum in El Paso, and he is helping to increase local educational attainment through investments in public school innovation and excellence. In 2011, Mr. Fernandez joined the Board of Directors for the Medical Center of the Americas, an organization dedicated to the advancement and development of the MCA campus and regional biomedical initiatives. He is a member of Paso Del Norte Group, a local organization of business and civic leaders, and the Borderplex Alliance, an El Paso-based bi-national economic development organization. He also previously served on the City of El Paso Planning Commission. 


Mr. Fernandez earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1998.
